Sail Fish Desk Sculpture from Nautical Supply Shop - $68.95 The Kustom paint puts this well over th' 2 Bill mark. I want to do a couple more of these - dis is kEwL ! Pictured - right side of fish. This was accomplished as one of three original pieces of art for the 9th Annual Rat Fink Reunoin in Manti, Utah. This was one of the Fun Run Trophies.

This is th' Wright 1927 Rat Rod done up in "Living" color. There were some fliers for the Ghouls on the car when I photographed it. Turns out the car is not in th' club. No matter, they both get free publicity right here on Screw Brain Graphics art site.

In case you are wondering, that "thing" flapping behind th' rod is a "Moon Bat." Sorry, hez Copyrighted !

A long time ago, in a country where things still mattered, there was a military branch who's job it was to kill the enemy and break their stuff. The time was th' 1940's and th' unit was th' U.S.M.C.

Back when I was in that gun club, (1980's) I was talkin' to an ol' timer. He informed

me that, back in th' day, the Corps emblem, the Eagle, Globe & Anchor was refered to as, Th' Buzzard, Ball & Fish Hooks. I've been wanting to put my own twist (never satisfied to leave well enough alone...) on that time honored image. The S.B.G. design will no doubt have more detail than the original - But it also will be sooo KeWl ! More on this later.

Hay ! Th' end of September marked the end of road for another JH local busness. Marc Loebe of the Board Room shut down as th' origional owner, but put on a bash of sorts for all hiz loyal kustomerz. Above art work was a G.O.O.B. gift from me to Marc. I hung out & "directed" all (or MOST of all) of the attendees to come sign the border of the finished piece. Once totally signed, it got popped in a frame and presented to Th' Board Dude ! He wuz speachless... He liked it ! It was all worth it. Keep on finkin' Bro !

The Teton County Fair went well this year. 2 Blue Ribbons !

The one on the Left side was won by the, "Mr. Lonely" toilet seat.

Comment on the back of the entry card reads, "Nicely done.

That is what is said when the viewer doesn't really care for the artists

OK, this is Baseball Head... I'm not going into all the details of the Main title & th' Alt title, all that is in an older post. What IS new is th' nifty display box he is in. Th' guys @ th' glass shop were not able to get my plexi cube finished in time, so I made one myself. I actually found all the stuff in town [THIS town] to get this made. Hats off to K-Mart, 4A Engraving and Scumrise Hardware & Lumber. W/O them, this neva' wooda' happened.

I'll report later on the reaction from th' judges to this years entries. Hasta !

Howdee Pard ! Some of yall may recall seeing this in "Older Posts." The first one of these was finished for the 8th Annual Rat fink Reunion this year. Auctioned off for $60 I think. Anyway, I had a "hole" on my wall where the 1st one hung, so I decided to paint one for myself... And why not enter th' fool thang in th' fair while I'm at it ? Gotta' break these Rocky Mnt. types into th' Kustom Kulture kinda' slow like - ya dig ?

This is a slightly more detailed version of the 1st one I painted. Base Ball Head will hopefully be entered in th' fair as well. I gotta' find something for him to live in. It'll keep th' grubby paws from breaking him.

The process started out slowly, a little here, a little there. The week end came and I had some uninterrupted time to devote to finishing it up.

Robby Layton of Layton, Utah (No relation) axed me to fink out his tiny new son's Onezee, and this is what he got ! The actual item is small - the graphic for this is only 7 1/2" X 10 1/2".

Wow ! My 1st Toilet Seat... I'm getting ready for th' 8th annual Rat Fink Reunion in Manti, Utah next month. And yes, this is my 1st toilet seat. Some of the other artists at th' have painted TS @ past reunions, while I was always stuck working on the awards required for the events held during the 3 day do. Well this year, I have th' awards finished ahead of time, so I get to work on things I want to !

Since I refuse to flat copy ANY Roth Studio work, this graphic is a combination of the art from the water slide decals, "LONESOME," and "PRAY FOR SURF," with some of my own modifications added for good measure. So even though this LOOKS like some Roth Studio work, it is not an exact copy, and is actually a NEW piece of art work. This will likely go to the benefit auction. Fink of that !

Neeee ! This is "Helmet Fink" airbrushed in colour. H.F. was bornd-ed in January of this year, copyrighted, & then stashed in a drawer. (Finks like drawers.) Anyway, I figured I'd try my hand @ a color version as the original is supposed to be inked/ black & white.
A tribute piece of sorts, to Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. Th' fink's helmet reads, "PRIDE of MAYWOOD `59 - `70" and "Venice Beach California."

1959 was th' year Ed opened his own studio & rod shop in Maywood, California; not far from Bell, California, the place where he grew up. Roth Studios closed its doors in 1970 after an all too short but successful run.
Venice Beach is the closest beach to Roth Studios. If one were to travel due west of, "Th' House of Rat Fink," you would end up on Venice Beach !

I plan to etch a set of 6 beer mugs this weekend. Flixz of those to come soon. - RatzO out !

I was going through a stack o' stuff and found a sheet wit' some ol' sketchez on it.

"Wing Nut" was bornded back in 2007 but never committed to a full sized, finished

piece of art werk. Well "Wing Nut" is here now, and finished. This will make a swell

T- Shirt design, or for th' right price, it could become someones' really neat product

logo. I'm just sayin'...

Boop Fink - Generic Ink

The original customer was not satisfied with the sketches I sent her

for her "Boop Fink." I'll see her in June and hopefully bang out an

agreement on a finished piece of art for her.

At any rate, here is the generic ink of th' Boop. I will have prints

of this to air brush and ink in more details tomorrow. May just

get a colored example finished this week end.

I kinda like her. She is Boop-ish without being an exact copy.

I'm not keen on gettin' sued. I just couldn't bring myself to do

a horrible monster type Boop. This one comes off pretty well,

I think.

The color versions will be sooo kewl...

I can hardley wait.

B. Kirkham of Manti, Utah axked me to Fink out her 1954 Chevy 4 door @ last years R.F. Reunion. She is a Betty Boop fan, so naturally there HAD to be a Boop Fink driving.

I went for "sassy" & not "scary" cuz, well... Its Betty Boop for kryin' out loud !! Above is the
sketch. I'll send off some contact sheets for approval on Monday. Too bad she wants this in B&W, it would look sooo kewl in kolor !

I suppose this could actually be more of a "Betty Boob" than a "Boop," but I don't want to hear any noise from the copyright holder so I changed her up a bit. I think shez kinda hawt - for a cartoon that is...

I didn't go too wild with the power plant either. One, the angle the car is in; it's more nose up than some of the others I've drawn in the past, thus presenting less of an area to render a monster engine. I wanted to kinda tone down the Finkness in this drawing for the customers sake and for respect for the character driving this crate ! I like th' Boop too...

Just a prelem idea for th' headers. I am already thinking about changing them up a bit. There will also be a huge, smokin' drag slick in the rear, and plenty of flames in the finished product.

This one will be fun... I hope I get the green light to finish it soon. - RatzO

WHAT i DID DURING mY SUmMer VacAtion...

Hi ! tHIS has nothing to do with HoT RoD KaRz, but... I werkt my tail off this summer, therefore, I am tail-less @ th' moment. Lots of repair and construction projektz here, and @ my Mom'z place. Won't burden you with details as it has nothing to do with art; they are completed though and will not need to be redone next year. Perhapse I will actually be able to get some artwerk completed NEXt summer. Well, the cold white death of winter is coming soon, I'll be able to werk through most of that...

The, Outback Gallery in Alpine, Wyoming is featuring some of my werk. This is one piece I was able to turn out back in August. Any HD fanz out there should like this one.

During my front porch "store" sales, I was able to pick @ this one as well, until it too was finished. I really hope I am able to get back to the drawing table soon as there are a multitude of projektz I want to get on. Oh, and did I mention, I'm redoing th' bathroom...

Bobbo Dun passed from time to eternity at 7:10 pm on the last day of August, 2009.
I first met him in 2006, at the first Rat Fink Reunion I attended. An exceptional
artist, pin stripper and generally crotchety old coot - He was th' MAN ! I, along with

The Nordin `23 Ford Touring Car au Fink-bay !

Well kiddiez, the deal is finally done ! This here is th' the final drawing for the Yuma car club. I must say, the folks have been real kind to me - so, Thanxz a ton for your patience and support !This is th' finked out version of Mr. Nordin's `23 ford. The body style is of the four door Touring Car, though I believe the construction is actually fiber glass.

There is a Viking Fink at the wheel & a lil' goon hanging on for dear life in th' back. This rod is so fast, it ripped all of his cloths off except for his boots ! One wild ride - to be sure !

Kustom extras: A Von Dutch radiator cap and a "Budz Sudz" bottle shifter knob. Swarm of flies, no extra charge.

On this drawing, I decided to use the actual engine instead of a replacement, or a highly modified version. I was able to get some good detailed shots of the motor, plus it looks pretty kewl as is, so I used it.

Viking Fink (one of many...) in all his glory. He'z groovin' so hard, hiz eyes are crossed ! Live free, drive fast, have fun and leave a good lookin' corpse !

Goon. Poor lil' guy. VF is driven' so nutty, this lil' dude fell right out th' back. Maybe they can go back for hiz cloths at least... I'm just sayin' !

Smoke & flames. No fink picture is complete without gobs of this stuff. Just remember folks: "Speed, a strange and tragic magic."

There is still a lot more to come - I'm not dead yet so I have to keep makin' "art."

P. Sundell's 1931 Ford Sedan. This was a fun one to work on. Came up with a couple of NEW characters. Rat Biz-kit, and Helmet Hawk. The Nordin `23 - T is in the drawing phase right now. I might even get it finished before this years show. Don't shoot me, I'm just sayin'...!

"Helmet Hawk" (Copyright -2009 Screw Brain Graphics/RatzO) Since the Winged Flying Eyeball is not mine to use, (Von Dutch came up with it a long time ago) and the copyright is held by another individual, I am working on different images that will work to the same effect. HH is a dumpy lil' bird wearing a monocle and beat up German helmet. He is need of a shave but that doesn't stop him, he's still whistling "Dixie!" (No, really ! That is the tune he's singing!)

Our driver for this rod is, Rat Biz-kit. Rat Biz-kit loves to race... Actually he just loves to drive fast, racing is just an excuse. ("Rat Biz-kit" Copyright - 2009 Screw Brain Graphics/RatzO) From his feindish grin to the drool off his tongue, and the gleam in his eyes, Rat Biz-kit is a Drag Lover from way back. Fink on people, th' RAT is where it's at !

Double superchargers and a big chrome air scoop top off this mill. Rat Biz-kit needs a tire change every time he backs out of th' drive way !

To "illustrate" my point, just look at these beauties. Even th' front wheels are smokin' ! He must have stock in Good Year or somethin' !

Howdee ! I was on the Rat Fink Group @ Yahoo the other night, and saw that someone had asked if anyone knew of a model kit of Keneth Howard's (Von Dutch) "Flying Eyeball."

I have never heard of one, or seen one myself, and not being one to leave well enough alone, I decided to start working on the project on my own.

Above is a freehand rendering of the base/stand for the kit. I'll be posting snippets of the other drawings later. I'm hoping a model company will be interested, if so, please contact me.

"Fatty" Marie in Yuma asked if I would design her a tatoo of a Worn/ Wounded Heart.

Image is of a Heart-com Skull with double barbed wire halo. Heart is bleeding, skull is weeping.
The smoke of old memories drifts down, and becomes a rose (the promise of a new awakening/ fresh start) as drops of blood mingle with the smoke.

Just a concept piece. If She likes it, I'll get it to her. Stay tuned for further developments!

The Nostalgia Car Club in Yuma, Arizona has some real sweet rodz. Mr. Statzer has a butter yellow, flamed `32 Ford Coupe. This is th' Finked out version I did of it. Sketch awaiting approval. Th' ink will flow when I hear, "Go!"

Monster Rod Jockey - I'm trying some different stuff with th ' drivers. Ed Newton did a LOT of work for Mr. Roth @ his Studio in May wood, Cal. in th' 60's. I don't ever want to be accused of "copying" someone else's art work - style maybe, but not an outright copy of some other dude's work. I want to capture th' "Ed Roth" finky feel of the old time shirt art though. There is a particular "fun" feel to the work produced by Roth Studios, and I want to keep that going. Good things don't HAVE to end !

Old kit art makes a come back !

Back in early summer, I met a girl that really wanted the original sketch I did of this. I am working on a re-pop of the kit, (Limited edition No. 2,398 of 2,500. ) and wanted to see what the modifications I was planning for it would look like - so I did a drawing of it. To cut to th' chase, she was begging me for it !

Due to the fact that I was not finished using th' sketch/rough drawing, I promised her I would draw her one of her very own when I got finished with the original.

Well, while I was back down south in September, I had a chance to make good my promise. This was about the only thing I had a chance to work on for the whole 3 weeks, this and the hot rod pepper. That was a real bummer, because I wanted to get some of my earlier commitments going, but I'm working on them now. If you look at this in the large format you will notice the copyright date for the kit, it is actually supposed to be 1965. What was I thinking?

Anyway, I was hoping she would like it when I gave it to her...

And, she did!

I was back in Yuma for about 3 weeks in September. My better 1/2 took me out to Chili's for lunch. They are having a, "Create a Pepper" fund drive for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. I just had to do one - donated $3. When I brought it back, the greeter said. "Kool !!" and hung it right up front. I figure there was a fight to see who got to take it home after they took all of them down. I wonder who ended up with it?

Howdee yall ! I finally got the "studio" organized to th' point where I can actually do some work in here. You can see "floor" & everything !

This is the latest of the Midnight @ the Oasis comish'nd drawings. What we have here is a Finked out version of Dale Barfell's 1977 Chevy StepSide Pick Up Truck.

"Advance - Design by Chevrolet" is from a 1949 print ad, and I was even able to duplicate the font style. Flaming Eyeball Comet is one of my trademark "extras." Too bad this is just going to be inked in, black & white... It would look knarly in kolour !

The Ed Newton work done for Roth Studios in th' 60's & 70's was great, but I want to pass on some of my own "style" to the whole Finky Art scene. Just got back home on the 5th of October. I got some art stuff taken care of though,
and a new job. The VW people in Yuma are having a show in early November.

3 weeks ago I just had to create SOMTHING !

I got one of the model kits I brought up here and

set about to do some modifying.

This is a snap together kit with very few pieces.

That is a good thing `cause I don't have a lot of time.

I ignored th' glue & paint not required thing on th' box,

and glued & painted it anyway!

There is a lot of detail that dosen't show.

I might get into that later.

The drive belt for example is an actual rubber band.

It was fun to build this one... Kinda' mindless even.

It turned out pretty kewl for a cheesy lil' kit.

Sometime over th' last couple of days, Screw Brain Graphics Blog Site has recieved 100 + hits!

21 June, 2008: Here is th' finished Shirt Design for a local custom paint shop - Kolor Me Kustom.
The owner, Chris has been waiting for this for a while...

As in before I went to th' Fink party in Manti.

After that, there wuz some out of town family business I needed to take care of, and that took an extra week longer than I had counted on.

I was only able to work on the design for around 6 hours while I was away.

I arrived back in Yuma about 2130, on th' 18th of June - just in time to turn th' rent van in.

Worked on the design some on th' 19th & completed it on th' 20th!

My first attempt @ airbrush portraiture. The folks @ the paint supply store, The Color Shop, knew right away who it was. But all of them said, "He looks thinner." what ever that means. Anyway Chris, it's finished... I hope you like it.

1st Annual Jak-d Up Kustoms Show & Shine Yuma, Arizona

17 April 2008. I received this job request on 12 April, an got the sketch approved on the 14th. This projekt was final sketched on th' 15th, and work commenced after the dart tournament shirts were completed and turned in on the 17th. Confused?!? I sure am!!

The grafique depicts a modified scene of Gateway Park on the banks of th' "Mighty" Colorado river, lookin' NW. The 1914 auto bridge to the left of the old 1923 U.Pac. rail bridge was omitted, and the rail bridge makes up the main lead in lines. A winged caduceus displays a banner ribbon which reads, "Beat Leukemia for Lil' Richie" All of this points to a charicature of Lil' Richie Gerber, a 2 year old local boy child, diagnoded this January with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

In the background is the typical river bank flora on either side of the bridge, and a couple dancing the Tango. Framing all this in, are 2 of the sponsor's hand made kustoms and a finky monster in top hat. I had intended to have all of the sponsor/event info @ the lower end of the layout, framed in with smokin' tikkies and beautiful girl eyes. Centered at the bottom is the burning/ sacred heart of Mary & our Lord Jesus with sword. All of this bordered in lovely flames!

UUUGGG - aAaahhhh! Howdee to the living. I got hit around 2100 (9PM) on the 18th April with some type O' Gutbugg - "We're known around these parts for... Food Poisoning!" "Yeah... Don't think we can STAY for lunch!" I feel almost Yuman now.

I'll not go into detail, but suffice to say, I felt "krappy!" Got out of bed in a functional way around 1400 on the 20th and chained myself to the drawing table and proceeded. Work was sporadic but consistant until evening. Got up @ 0300 on the 21st and knocked it out before noon. Delivered the finished product to James on Monday, 21 April. I had to change some of the layout from the original sketch, but I believe it worked OK. The customer was pleased... I just hope it is not too late to get th' shirts made!

Dart Tournament Shirts-zzah!

12 - 17 April 2008 I have 2 time critical jobs due at the close of this week end. First is a 4 shirt, airbrushed set for 23rd Annual NDA International Team Dart Tournament, held in Las Vegas, Navada, 18 - 20 April.

Above is the sketch approved for the projekt, sans the Injun, and "No freebies!" It is for an all girl team, made up of: Kris, Dee, Lisa and Sherrie. I'll let chew know iffen they won or not when I find out.

The shirts were painted in the girl's favourite colours. This is Dee's completed shirt. There was another purple, a red one, and one in blue. I sure hope these helped give them a steady hand!

31 March 2008. I purchased a real nice airbrush on e-Bay last year from Moldy Marvin. With some pointers from th' Mold-e-one, I knocked this out this morning. SO, this is my 1st freehand airbrushed shirt. Not bad for a hairlip !

Dart throwin' surfer dude!?! Detail of T-shirt design.

Went to Round Table Pizza for a late lunch on Friday - 21 March. While ordering, my girl & I got to talking to the manager, and found out she needed some shirts for a dart compitition comming up in a few weeks. Before we left, I did a quick sketch for her on a paper napkin. She liked it and placed the order on the spot.

She wanted a guy on a surf board throwing darts, with "Along For th' Ride" as the team name.
Of course, the city and state are @ the bottom.

I've always liked it, so I used the Japanees painting of the tsunami wave as the basis for the wave in this design. A hot dog surfer on th' end of his stick, hangin' 10 and throwin' darts is the key character [see 5th photo from top in this post], and to go along with the - Along for th' Ride - theme, I stuck a hich hiking crustation on th' side, complete with his own can of "SUDZ BEER!"

A dude wanted to buy the origional rough drawing from me on th' spot... only, he had not th' bucks with `em!

I started inking the orig. when I got a call from him to do a finished pencil drawing.

I decided to use 3 different pencils for different portions of th' drawing. He came to pick it up today [21/03/08] and was near speechless. Yeah, he liked it! So this one is sold, and I'm ALREADY getting calls for more drawings of this same car! Aint' life GRAND!

One of my all time favorites. The lines of this war hammer are sweet - even as a car-icky-ture!
When completed, a stack of prints will be made. This will enable yall to pick an actual B-17 from War 2, to pattern a custom piece of artwork from. I usually cut these out and mount them on an airbrushed background. Squadron insignia or enlarged nose art can be added to the piece to finish it off.

The NaNa bird is a elusive creature. First discovered and trade marked in 2007, the NaNa is unmistakable... if you are fortunate enough to see one. Hearing one is another matter! "Good luck" is sure to follow you if you see one of these freaky birds, provided it dosen't land on your head. The NaNa depicted lives in caves in the Grand Canyon region. This is the copyrighted 1st original. More to come.

"Big Daddy" Ed Roth's Rat Fink - Ink to Color

Rat Fink is truly one of my childhood heros. A BIG, nasty, hot rod, drag racing rat - how kewl is that?! I did the ink and marker drawings for the 2006 Rat Fink Reunion, held in Manti, Utah. Tha' Jersey Devil

The most popular version of the Jersey Devil legend begins in the 18th century when Deborah Smith from England immigrated to the Pine Barrens in southern New Jersey to marry a Mr. Leeds, who wanted several heirs to continue the family name. Consequently, the new wife was continually pregnant. After bearing twelve healthy children, she was dismayed to be pregnant with her thirteenth. She cursed the unborn child, declaring a preference to bear the Devil's child rather than another Leeds. Apparently, her wish was granted as the new child had cloven hooves, claws, and a tail. The horrific newborn proceeded to eat the other Leeds children and the parents, before escaping through the chimney to begin its reign of terror. This version is contradicted by the fact that Mother Leeds has descendants that, as of 1998, still lived in Atlantic County New Jersey according to a New York Times article dated April 26, 1998 (Section 14NJ, Page 8).
There are several variations of the Leeds tale, such as one claiming that when Leeds became pregnant with her thirteenth child, she remarked, "May it be a devil!" The belief that a deformed child was the work of Satan or a curse was still common during the 1800s.
